Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK) has disowned social media accounts impersonating its Vice Chancellor, Professor Sa'adatu Hassan Liman, warning students, staff and the general public against engaging with the fake profiles.

The University disclosed that Professor Liman does not own, operate or maintain any personal account on Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok or any other social media platform, noting that the fraudulent accounts were set up by impostors intent on deceiving, extorting and scamming unsuspecting students, staff, contractors and members of the public.

In a statement issued by the University management, NSUK stressed that the Vice Chancellor would never initiate contact through social media to offer admission, award contracts, solicit financial assistance or request personal information from anyone.

The Institution cautioned that anyone who engages, chats or transacts business, financial or otherwise, with the fake accounts does so entirely at their own risk, adding that the University would not be held liable for any loss incurred through such interactions.

Members of the public were urged to remain vigilant and report any social media profile claiming to belong to Professor Liman to the relevant platform administrators as fraudulent, then block the account immediately.

NSUK explained that all official directives, announcements and communications from the Office of the Vice Chancellor and the University management are routed exclusively through the University's official website, internal memos and bulletins, and the verified institutional social media handles managed by the Information and Protocol Unit.

The University reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the university community and the general public against digital fraud and impersonation, appealing to everyone to exercise caution when they encounter unverified accounts claiming to represent NSUK officials online.

The alert comes amid a wider pattern of impersonation targeting university officials across the country, with fraudsters increasingly exploiting social media platforms to defraud unsuspecting members of the public using the names of prominent academic figures.
