Graduating students of the Department of Medical Laboratory Science at Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) will be formally inducted and sworn into the profession on Thursday, 30th July 2026, the University has announced.

The ceremony, organised by the Department under the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, College of Medicine, will hold at the Barr. Dr. Peter Mbah Multipurpose Hall, ESUT Agbani, by 10:00 AM, and marks the sixth batch of graduands to be inducted and sworn in by the Institution.

Themed "From Knowledge To Service: Upholding Excellence In Medical Laboratory Science," the event will see the graduating cohort inducted and administered their oath by the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN), Dr Donald Ofili.

Dr Ofili was confirmed as substantive Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of MLSCN in June 2026, following a selection process that involved advertised vacancies, assessed applications and a review by the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare. He had earlier served in an acting capacity before his substantive appointment.

Since assuming the role, Dr Ofili has repeatedly pledged to strengthen quality assurance, guarantee accurate laboratory test results and enhance patient safety across Nigeria's healthcare system, describing correct diagnosis as central to effective medical practice. He has also spoken of consolidating the Council's regulatory reforms, including its accreditation standing under international bodies, as part of efforts to reposition Nigerian laboratory practice among global standards.

The MLSCN regulates the practice of medical laboratory science in Nigeria, overseeing the registration and licensing of medical laboratory scientists and technicians before they are permitted to practise professionally.

ESUT's Department of Medical Laboratory Science has held previous induction and oath taking ceremonies for earlier batches of graduands, with the College of Medicine routinely inviting MLSCN officials to administer the professional oath to newly qualifying scientists.

The University congratulated the inductees ahead of the ceremony, noting that the event formally admits them into professional practice within the medical laboratory science field in Nigeria.
