The University of Uyo (UNIUYO) has scheduled its 138th Inaugural Lecture for Thursday, 30th July 2026, with Professor Aniefiok S. Ukommi of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology billed to deliver the address.

Vice Chancellor of the Institution, Professor Christopher N. Ekong, has invited members of the University community and the general public to the event, which holds at 3:00 PM at the 1000 Seater TETFund Auditorium on the Main Campus, Nwaniba Road, Uyo. Guests are expected to be seated by 2:45 PM.

Professor Ukommi, a Professor of Industrial Sociology in the Faculty of Social Sciences, will speak on the topic "That It May Be Well With Nigerian Workers: My Contributions To Industrial Sociology."

He holds a doctorate in Sociology from the University of Port Harcourt and has taught Sociology and related courses at UNIUYO since 2008, having begun his teaching career at the College of Administrative and Business Studies, Potiskum, Yobe State. He has more than 30 publications in local and international journals and serves as National General Secretary of the Nigerian Anthropological and Sociological Practitioners' Association, alongside consultancy roles with several organisations.

Inaugural lectures at UNIUYO form part of a long running tradition through which senior Professors present the cumulative findings of their academic careers to the University community, with the numbering of the lecture series reflecting the Institution's sustained output of scholarly presentations across faculties over the years.

The Department of Sociology and Anthropology, under the Faculty of Social Sciences, has produced several scholars specialising in Industrial Sociology, Industrial Relations and Human Resource Management, an area of study concerned with workplace behaviour, labour conditions and organisational performance within Nigeria's economy.

The University did not disclose whether the lecture would be streamed online for members of the public unable to attend physically, but confirmed that the event remains open to both the University community and outside guests at the TETFund Auditorium.
