The National Universities Commission has approved 14 new undergraduate programmes for Federal University Lokoja, with the courses set to commence in full time mode from the 2026/2027 academic session.

The approval was conveyed in a letter dated 16th June, 2026, signed on behalf of the NUC Executive Secretary by the Director of Academic Planning, Abubakar M. Girei, following a resource verification exercise conducted by a panel of experts.

The newly approved programmes span emerging and technology driven fields as well as social and applied sciences. They include B.Sc. Artificial Intelligence, B.Sc. Data Science, B.Sc. Cyber Security, B.Sc. Software Engineering, B.Sc. Psychology, B.Sc. Social Work, B.Sc. Criminology and Security Studies, B.Sc. Procurement Management, B.Sc. Entrepreneurship Studies, B.Sc. Actuarial Science, B.Sc. Film and Multimedia Studies, B.Sc. Broadcasting Journalism, B.Sc. Fisheries and Aquaculture, and B.Sc. Agricultural Economics.

Prospective candidates may apply for the programmes through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board Central Admissions Processing System once the courses are uploaded. Qualified applicants already in the admissions process may also effect a change of programme to apply for any of the newly approved courses.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Gbenga Solomon Ibileye, described the approval as a significant affirmation of the university's progress in academic expansion and institutional growth. He noted that the programmes aligned with the university's strategic vision of producing graduates equipped to address contemporary challenges and contribute to national development.

Ibileye stressed that the inclusion of technology driven disciplines such as Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Cyber Security and Software Engineering was particularly significant given their growing relevance to the future of work and global competitiveness.

He reaffirmed his administration's commitment to quality teaching, research, infrastructure and human capital development to ensure the successful take off of the programmes. He expressed appreciation to the NUC for its confidence in the university's capacity.
