Dr Chukwudalu Orji, Chief Medical Director of Pat Angelina Anyaegbu Memorial Hospital in Amichi, has expressed satisfaction with the partnership between the National Youth Service Corps and the hospital, stating that it was instrumental in the successful execution of the Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers programme.
The NYSC in Anambra State conducted its First Quarter 2026 Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers at the hospital in Amichi, Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State on Thursday, benefiting approximately 120 indigent residents, including the elderly, women, youths, and children.
The outreach was organised in collaboration with the hospital and featured free medical consultations, distribution of drugs, and laboratory tests, including HIV and Hepatitis screenings, aimed at improving the health and well being of rural dwellers.
Emmanuel Anameme, Chief of Staff representing the Chairman of Nnewi South LGA, Uche Ochuba, commended the NYSC for bringing the free medical outreach to Amichi, noting that the initiative would significantly improve access to healthcare for residents across the local government area.
Mrs Pauline Ojisua, NYSC State Coordinator, thanked the Amichi community for providing the platform to positively impact lives through the HIRD initiative, while flagging off the programme.
She described the event as a milestone for the community, which received comprehensive, free medical services under the programme, emphasising that the HIRD initiative is a flagship NYSC outreach aimed at bridging healthcare gaps in underserved rural communities.
"By improving the health of our rural dwellers, we uplift families, strengthen communities, and build a more resilient Nigeria. We commend the dedication of Corps members and express gratitude to the traditional institutions, community leaders, and residents of Amichi for their warm reception and logistical support," Ojisua stated.
The Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers programme represents part of NYSC's broader commitment to community development and service delivery in underserved areas, leveraging the skills and expertise of Corps members to address critical healthcare needs in rural communities across Nigeria.
