Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, has approved upward reviews of kit, daily feeding, and transport allowances for corps members, effective 2027, as part of improved welfare measures marking his first year in office.

The 23rd Director General of NYSC, who assumed office on 6th March 2025, presented his one year scorecard at a ceremony in Abuja, highlighting achievements in transparent leadership, robust corps welfare, and job creation initiatives.

Nafiu disclosed that the scheme recruited 850 staff to strengthen operational efficiency and secured a compressed natural gas bus to enhance transportation for staff and corps members during the year under review.

"We have approved upward reviews of kit, daily feeding and transport allowances, effective 2027. These steps are part of our commitment to ensuring that corps members' welfare remains a priority," Nafiu stated.

He revealed that the NYSC conducted the 2025 promotion exercise, with 696 senior and 139 junior staff promoted, and 173 staff approved for conversion to new cadres and salary grades, with disengagement allowances promptly paid to retired staff.

"It is with humility and honour that I present my one year report as the 23rd director general of the National Youth Service Corps. Over the past year, we have worked collectively to reposition the scheme for greater impact, guided by discipline, excellence and service to the nation," Nafiu noted.

The Director General stated that his administration’s vision focused on three pillars: transparent leadership, strong corps welfare, and job creation initiatives. These aim to strengthen the NYSC Scheme to meet Nigeria’s evolving needs and ensure its future relevance.

He disclosed that the scheme has continued strategic engagements with key stakeholders, including the Nigeria Governors Forum and state governments, to ensure the scheme meets its objectives.

"Through community development activities, cultural festivals in camps and entrepreneurship programmes, we are fostering integration and creating opportunities for our youth to contribute meaningfully to national development," Nafiu observed.

The NYSC won several awards during the year, including Best Supporting Chief Executive 2025 by SERVICOM National Office, Best Performing SERVICOM Unit at the SERVICOM Presidency's 2025 Annual End of Year Award Meeting, and Most Compliant Public Sector on Data Protection by the Nigeria Data Protection Commission in February 2026.
