The National Youth Service Corps in Osun State has rejected as false and misleading reports alleging that corps members are being paid ₦50,000 each to influence the outcome of the August 15 governorship election in the state.

A statement issued by spokesperson Catherine Otemuyiwa on behalf of the State Coordinator, Ekeng Ita Kubiangha, described the online publication as entirely without factual basis, stressing that the scheme had neither authorised, coordinated nor supervised any payment to corps members for political or unlawful purposes.

"The allegation is false, misleading, and entirely without factual basis. At no time did the scheme authorise, coordinate, supervise, or have knowledge of any such payment for political or unlawful purposes," the statement read.

The NYSC reaffirmed its status as a non partisan institution, noting that corps members are regularly reminded to maintain political neutrality and comply strictly with the NYSC Act, the scheme's Bye Laws and all applicable electoral guidelines. Kubiangha was said to have consistently sensitised corps members on the need to reject inducements and remain impartial throughout election duties.

The scheme added that corps members had been advised to safeguard sensitive electoral materials and discharge their responsibilities in accordance with the Electoral Act and regulations issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The NYSC also disclosed that it was working closely with security agencies to ensure the safety and welfare of corps members before, during and after the Osun governorship election.

The statement urged members of the public to disregard the report and called on media organisations to verify information with appropriate authorities before publication.
