A fresh push to raise education standards across Lagos State is taking shape at the Institutional level, as two key government agencies have moved to deepen their collaboration in a bid to strengthen oversight, accountability, and quality management across the state's schools.
The Lagos State Office of Education Quality Assurance paid a courtesy visit to the Parastatals Monitoring Office as part of efforts to improve service delivery and tighten standards within the education sector. The meeting brought together senior officials from both agencies, reflecting a growing recognition that effective education governance demands coordinated institutional action rather than isolated effort.
The Special Adviser on Parastatals Monitoring, Mr. Ibrahim Babajide Obanikoro, commended the quality assurance agency for its work in maintaining standards across Lagos schools and stressed the need to sustain the progress already recorded. He encouraged the agency to harness technological solutions, specifically the National Identification Number system, to enhance monitoring processes and administrative efficiency across educational institutions.
Permanent Secretary Dr. Olugbemiga Ayoola Aina reinforced the case for partnership, describing strong institutional frameworks as essential to improving overall system performance. "Working in silos hinders progress. There must be collaboration and shared responsibility if we are to achieve sustainable development in the education sector," he said.
The Director General of the Office of Education Quality Assurance, Dr. Sulaimon Olagoke Ogunmuyiwa, reaffirmed the agency's commitment to effective regulation, school inspections, and continuous capacity building for educators. He also disclosed that the agency is advancing plans to introduce school self evaluation systems that will allow Institutions to assess their own performance and strengthen internal quality management.
For students and educators across Lagos, the initiative signals a more structured and accountable approach to education governance, one driven by Institutions that are increasingly willing to work together rather than operate in isolation, and one that could meaningfully raise the standard of learning across one of Nigeria's most populous states.
