The Management of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, has assured students that the Ondo State Government is addressing the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities and that it will soon be resolved.

The assurance came in a statement issued by the Deputy Registrar, Information, Protocol and Public Relations, Mr Sola Imoru, in response to a 72 hour ultimatum issued by the University's Student Union Executives demanding an end to the industrial action.

ASUU AAUA embarked on an indefinite withdrawal of services from 11:59 pm on Friday, July 10, 2026, over the non payment of lecturers' salaries for May and June 2026. The chapter Chairperson, Comrade Bolu Oshodi, said the congress reaffirmed earlier resolutions reached on April 28 and June 18, 2026, directing members to suspend academic activities until the arrears were cleared. The strike began just two days after Prof Tomola Obamuyi resumed office as the University's seventh substantive Vice Chancellor, having been appointed by the Governor of Ondo State on June 26.

According to the Management's statement, the Governor of Ondo State and Visitor to the University, His Excellency, Hon (Dr) Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has already approved a special intervention fund to enable the Institution meet its financial obligations. The Management noted that this development was duly discussed with the leadership of the Students' Union.

"Management, therefore, appeals to all students to remain calm and exercise patience while the payment processes initiated by the Visitor to the University are being concluded," the statement partly read.

The Management further urged the Students' Union leadership to always seek clarification on matters affecting the University before making public pronouncements, describing the ultimatum as unnecessary given the steps already taken.

It stressed that dialogue remained the most effective approach to resolving issues of mutual concern, adding that the Institution remains committed to good university governance, transparency and sustained engagement with stakeholders.

The strike has left thousands of AAUA students without academic activity as the second semester examination period approaches, with an ASUU National Visitation Team earlier scheduled to visit the campus to review related agreements.
