Venite University in Iloro Ekiti has selected Professor Charity Aremu as its new Vice Chancellor following a competitive process that saw her triumph over 24 other candidates.
The announcement ends weeks of anticipation at the institution, with Professor Aremu bringing decades of experience from her previous role as Vice Chancellor of Landmark University, Omu Aran, Kwara State, where she led the institution to achieve Times Higher Education global ranking.
Professor Aremu graduated from the University of Ibadan in 1992 with a degree in Agricultural Biology, winning the Royal Dutch Shell BP Award and the Raymond Zard scholarship for Best Graduating Student. She holds an MSc and a PhD in Agricultural Biology and Plant Breeding from the University of Ibadan and the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, which were obtained in 1994 and 2004, respectively.
The new Vice Chancellor spent almost two decades at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, rising from Assistant Lecturer to full Professor in 2011 before moving to Landmark University in 2015.
Her administrative experience spans multiple leadership positions, including Head of Department, Dean of the College of Agriculture, Dean of Postgraduate Studies, and Director of African Agripreneurship Development Centre, chairing critical committees covering Quality Assurance, Appointments and Promotions, and University Strategic Planning.
In research productivity, Professor Aremu has published over 100 articles in Scopus and Web of Science indexed journals, accumulating over 2,000 citations in Google Scholar, which has earned her a place among the 2026 Top 500 researchers in Nigeria, as recognised by Scival.
Professor Aremu becomes the second substantive Vice Chancellor of Venite University, an institution committed to training self reliant graduates equipped to create jobs rather than merely seeking employment
