The construction of a new secretariat and additional hostel facilities at the permanent orientation camp in Nonwa Gbam, Tai Local Government Area, is currently underway in Rivers State. These projects form the core of a renewed drive by the state government to enhance the operational capacity of the National Youth Service Corps in the region.

State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mr. Moses Oleghe, highlighted these infrastructural strides during a meeting with the Secretary to the State Government in Port Harcourt on Thursday, March 26, 2026. He noted that the administration is pairing policy statements with visible projects to improve the welfare of corps members deployed to the state.

Beyond the ongoing construction, Oleghe pointed out that the government has ensured the provision of operational vehicles for zonal offices. He also acknowledged the consistent payment of corps members’ allowances, describing these interventions as critical to improving administration and accommodation standards.

Dr. Dagogo Wokoma, who serves as the Secretary to the State Government and Chairman of the Governing Board of the NYSC, received the coordinator. He reiterated that the NYSC remains a critical platform for grooming young Nigerians. Dr. Wokoma emphasized that the state government views investment in the scheme as part of a broader commitment to youth empowerment.

The SSG described the NYSC as a formidable scheme for mentoring and molding youths to become the leaders of tomorrow. He assured the coordination team of the continuous support of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
