Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu has inspected a newly constructed school complex in Tolu ahead of its formal commissioning, describing the facility as one of the largest school communities on the African continent and a significant step in the state's effort to expand access to quality education.
The Tolu Schools Complex sits on approximately 11.7 hectares of land and brings together 36 schools across primary, junior secondary and senior secondary levels within a single campus. The facility is designed to accommodate more than 20,000 students and includes modern classrooms alongside sports infrastructure such as football fields and basketball courts.
Sanwo Olu said the complex reflects the state government's commitment to providing students across Lagos with improved learning environments, and that the development forms part of a broader administration vision to strengthen the education sector at all levels.
During the inspection, the governor acknowledged residents and students who turned out to welcome him and assured them that the state government would continue to deliver projects that improve both education and community development in the areas where they are needed most.
For the students who will attend the Tolu Schools Complex, the facility represents a significant upgrade from the conditions many Lagos public school pupils currently experience. Consolidating 36 schools on a single modern campus with dedicated sports facilities changes not just where students learn but what they can access during and outside classroom hours, a distinction that matters considerably for children whose academic and physical development has long been constrained by inadequate infrastructure.
