Fresh students at Sa'adu Zungur University in Bauchi State have been put on notice about the consequences of violating institutional regulations as the university maintains its zero tolerance stance on misconduct.
The warning came during a one day orientation programme held at the Yuli Campus last weekend, where newly matriculated students received comprehensive briefings on academic expectations and behavioural standards.
Professor Musa Adamu Wunti, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, delivered a stern message about the seriousness of university education during the event.
He cautioned students against engaging in anti-social vices, including cultism and examination malpractice, emphasising that the university maintains zero tolerance for activities that could tarnish its image. The dean described university education as a serious commitment anchored on character and academic excellence.
The university's Registrar, AG Hassan, used the occasion to stress the importance of discipline and compliance with established rules throughout their academic journey.
Hassan reminded the students of the oath they had taken during their matriculation ceremony, urging them to uphold its contents throughout their stay at the university. He explained that strict adherence to the laid down rules would enable them to graduate with commendable results.
Drawing attention to an often overlooked aspect of university life, the registrar encouraged students to become familiar with the registry department early in their tenure.
"The office of the registrar is, therefore, a place you must be familiar with. It is central to your academic records and administrative processes," Hassan advised.
The orientation programme covered multiple critical topics, including examination malpractice, dangers of illicit drugs, campus relationships, and other academic regulations designed to guide student conduct.
Representatives from relevant agencies, including the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, participated in the event, contributing presentations aimed at sensitising students to responsible behaviour on campus.
The comprehensive programme reflects SAZU's commitment to equipping new students with the knowledge, expectations, and guiding principles necessary to navigate the university system successfully.
