Jigawa State Scholarship Board Award 2026 - Indigenes Only

The Jigawa State Scholarship Board Award 2026 is an educational support scheme sponsored by the Jigawa State government to assist qualified indigenes pursuing higher education in Nigeria and abroad.

Administered by the Jigawa State Scholarship Board (JSSB), the scholarship provides bursaries, local scholarships, and selected international sponsorships to help students cover tuition fees and other educational expenses.

The board was established to promote access to quality education by supporting academically deserving students from Jigawa State. Every year, thousands of students benefit from the scheme, making it one of the state's most important educational intervention programmes.

Scholarship Value

The amount awarded depends on your level of study and institution. The Jigawa State Scholarship Board offers awards of up to ₦400,000 to state citizens, though this amount may vary by category.

To put the scale of the programme in perspective, in 2025 the Jigawa State Government, through the Scholarship Board, allocated a total of ₦863,869,779 to support indigenous students enrolled in both Nigerian and foreign tertiary institutions, with the funds going towards tuition, allowances, and other forms of student support.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the 2026 award, applicants generally need to meet the following requirements:

  • Indigene status: You must be a bona fide indigene of Jigawa State, typically confirmed through a certificate of origin or a local government identification letter.

  • Enrolment: You must be currently enrolled in a tertiary education institution in Nigeria (or, for specific overseas tracks, an approved foreign institution).

  • Full time student status: Candidates must be full time students of an approved institution.

  • Documentation and deadline compliance: Applicants must provide all required documents and apply before the stated deadline.

  • Additional requirements: Candidates must also satisfy any extra academic or institutional requirements stipulated by the Board for that particular application year, which can change slightly from cycle to cycle.

Required Documents

Based on the Board's standard application requirements, you should have the following ready before you start:

  • Certificate of Origin or Local Government Identification Letter (to confirm Jigawa indigene status)

  • Senior Secondary Certificate/O-level results (SSCE/WAEC/NECO), to verify academic qualifications

  • Admission letter from your tertiary institution, or JAMB admission letter where applicable

  • Academic transcript or Statement of Results, showing your current academic performance

  • Birth certificate or age declaration

  • Recent passport sized photograph

  • Valid identification, such as a National ID, Voter's Card, or International Passport

Scan and save clean digital copies of everything above ahead of time; this will save you a lot of stress once the portal opens.

How to Apply

Applications are submitted entirely online. Here's the process:

  • Visit the official portal. Go to the Jigawa State Scholarship Board's dedicated applicant portal.

  • Create an account. Register by providing your full name, email address, phone number, and a secure password if you don't already have an account.

  • Log in using your new username and password.

  • Complete your profile. Fill in your personal information, state of origin, course of study, institution, and other academic details.

  • Upload your documents. Upload scanned copies of all required documents listed above.

  • Review carefully. Review your application to ensure all information is accurate, as discrepancies may lead to disqualification.

  • Submit. After submitting, you should receive a confirmation via email or SMS along with an application reference number; keep this safe.

  • Wait for processing and verification. Shortlisted applicants may be contacted for document verification and further screening by the board.

  • Track your status. You can log back into your portal account and check your dashboard to view your application's current status. If selected, follow any further instructions sent to your email or phone, such as document verification or interviews.

A quick note from the board's own instructions: When you reach the "Apply" button, do not click on any "System Test" application link; that's a testing environment, not the real form.
