A state of the art library and a proposed teaching hospital are set to redefine the academic landscape of Sokoto State University. Vice Chancellor Prof. Muhammad Bello Yarima revealed that these infrastructural strides are running concurrently with financial interventions aimed at supporting the student population.

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund is playing a crucial role in easing the financial constraints faced by students. Prof. Yarima disclosed that this initiative is complementing the financial support from the Sokoto State Government under Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto. He observed that the relief provided by these dual sources is encouraging wider participation in higher education.

“The combined support from NELFUND and the state government has significantly reduced the financial burden on students and families, encouraging wider participation in higher education,” Yarima said.

Regarding infrastructure, the Vice Chancellor highlighted the contributions of former Governor Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, who is constructing a library to enhance research and digital access. Furthermore, the current administration is determined to complete the university's Teaching Hospital and College of Medicine. This project is expected to facilitate the commencement of the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery programme in the North West region.

Beyond major structures, the state government has commenced the renovation of staff quarters. There are also plans to establish primary and secondary schools within the campus to serve the university community and rural settlements. Prof. Yarima highlighted that about 90% of female students are accommodated on campus, ensuring their safety and convenience.

The Vice Chancellor emphasised that the synergy between government support, national education financing, and infrastructure development is positioning the institution as a growing centre of academic excellence in Nigeria.
