Southern Delta University, Ozoro, is poised to achieve a significant institutional milestone as it prepares to hold its inaugural convocation ceremony, marking the formal transition of the former Delta State University of Science and Technology into a degree-awarding institution.
The university has announced an elaborate seven-day celebration spanning 22nd February to 1st March 2026, demonstrating its readiness to join Nigeria's established universities in conferring degrees on graduates.
An official bulletin released on Monday, 9th February 2026 (S.E. Vol. 1, No. 208), revealed that the convocation programme integrates religious, sporting, academic, and technological activities, showcasing the institution's diverse character.
The week opens with a church service at Annunciation Catholic Church, SDU, Ozoro, on Sunday, 22nd February, from 7:00 am to 10:00 am, whilst a thanksgiving service at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul, Diocese of Ozoro (Anglican Communion), will conclude festivities on Sunday, 1st March 2026, between 7:00 am and 10:00 am.
Entertainment and community engagement feature prominently through a novelty football match scheduled for Monday, 23rd February, at the SDU Stadium from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm, bringing together students, staff, and alumni.
The Vice-Chancellor will address the press on Tuesday, 24th February, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, followed by the Convocation Lecture on Wednesday, 25th February, between 11:00 am and 2:00 pm.
Reflecting its technological focus, the university will stage a Science, Technology and Innovation Exhibition on Thursday, 26th February, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, providing a platform for students and researchers to showcase innovative projects.
The main convocation ceremony takes place on Friday, 27th February, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, featuring prize awards and project commissioning.
