Sule Lamido University, Kafin Hausa, is preparing to celebrate one of the most significant milestones in its short history, graduating 4,109 students across six academic sessions at its 2nd Combined Convocation Ceremony on Saturday, with 154 of those students taking home First Class Honours degrees.

Vice Chancellor Muhammad Yakasai announced at a preconvocation press briefing held on Thursday at the University's Senate Building in Kafin Hausa, Jigawa State. He broke down the graduating class as follows: 154 First Class, 1,326 Second Class Upper, 1,954 Second Class Lower, 649 Third Class and 26 Pass degrees.

Yakasai used the occasion to outline a range of institutional developments that have reshaped the University in recent years. Postgraduate studies have been introduced, significantly boosting research output and attracting experienced academics to the Institution. The School of Preliminary Studies has been restructured into the School of Preliminary and Continuing Education, broadening the University's academic footprint. Infrastructure expansion has seen the construction of lecture halls, laboratories, a modern library, research centres and student hostels, all designed to support effective teaching and learning. Solar energy solutions and ICT development are also being implemented across campus to improve operational efficiency.

On student and staff welfare, Yakasai confirmed that subsidised transportation and accommodation remain active priorities, with programmes in place to enhance staff development, student success and campus safety. He also disclosed that 12 disbursements have been made to students through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, providing financial relief to beneficiaries across the Institution.

Looking ahead, the Vice Chancellor disclosed plans to establish a College of Medicine, describing it as a necessary step towards meeting societal healthcare needs and producing skilled medical professionals. He expressed optimism about the college's prospects and its potential to further elevate the University's academic profile.

Yakasai acknowledged the support of the Jigawa State Government and the Tertiary Education Trust Fund in driving the university's growth, while appealing for additional assistance in the areas of staffing and accommodation to sustain the quality of teaching and research going forward.

For a University that is still in the early stages of its institutional journey, graduating over four thousand students in a single ceremony, launching postgraduate programmes and planning a College of Medicine signals an Institution that is growing with both speed and purpose.
