The Strategic Media Alliance between the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) and Voice of Nigeria (VON) has demonstrated the power of collaboration in amplifying the impact of the agency’s interventions in the education sector. The partnership, formalised through a memorandum of understanding signed by TETFund’s Director of Executive Secretary, Sonny Echono, aims to leverage VON’s extensive reach across Africa, Europe, and the Americas to showcase the achievements, reforms, and investments within Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.
TETFund has established itself as a critical driver of development in the sector, funding infrastructure upgrades, research initiatives, and staff development programmes. The collaboration with VON is expected to significantly enhance the visibility of these projects both within Nigeria and beyond.
Speaking at the event, Echono emphasised the role of VON in translating complex technical information into accessible content for non English speakers. "Our collaboration with VON is a perfect example of how we can reach audiences that were thought to be distant, breaking down barriers, ensuring that vital information is accessible to all, irrespective of their geographical location or language," Echono stated.
He noted that TETFund’s investments have transformed landscapes in key institutions, creating state of the art facilities that support cutting edge research. "This transformation fosters an environment conducive to learning and research. It also attracts international partnerships, enhancing the global competitiveness of Nigerian universities."By working together, TETFund and VON are not just telling the story, they are shaping the future of tertiary education on the continent," Echono added.
In his remarks, VON Director General, Mr Daudzik Garba, stressed the broader picture regarding TETFund’s interventions. He noted that these projects often serve as models for similar initiatives in other sectors, ensuring a holistic approach to national development."
Garba pointed out that the coverage often focuses on challenges, such as the need for sustainable funding mechanisms. This is a gap that TETFund is currently filling. "However, through our collaboration, we are bridging these gaps, ensuring that no sector is left behind," he concluded.
He called for sustained investment in both infrastructure and human capacity, urging policymakers to view education funding through a lens of national development rather than isolated budget items.
