Dr Tunji Olowolafe, founder of the Tunji Olowolafe Foundation, has committed ₦1 billion over five years to support 1,000 students pursuing undergraduate degrees at Miva Open University through the Gbemisola Olowolafe Miva Scholarship.
"Our mission has always been to foster sustainable development through strategic human capital investment. By committing ₦1 billion over the next five years, we are creating a structured pathway for deserving students to access world class digital education. This scholarship ensures that 1,000 future leaders can focus entirely on their studies and competency development, knowing that their journey to a degree is fully supported and secured," Dr Olowolafe stated.
The scholarship application process will be managed through Miva Open University, with interested students encouraged to submit required documentation and personal statements through the university's website at www.miva.edu.ng/scholarship/gbemisola olowolafe scholarship.
Sim Shagaya, founder and chancellor of Miva Open University, described education as the most powerful tool for national transformation, emphasising access and equality over gatekeeping.
"There is a line from our national anthem that I have always found deeply moving: 'A nation where no man is oppressed.' Education is the most powerful tool we have to make that vision a reality. Not education as gatekeeping. Not education as a privilege for the few. But education as a right, as an enabler, as an equaliser. Numbers alone are not the goal. The goal is transformation. The goal is a Nigeria where every qualified student has access to world class education. The goal is a continent where our young people are not looking elsewhere for opportunity but creating it here," Shagaya noted.
To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must have an admission offer from Miva Open University, demonstrate financial need through appropriate documentation, maintain a strong academic record, demonstrate potential for academic excellence, and submit a personal statement detailing their academic and career goals.
Preference will be given to applicants who have participated in community service, held leadership roles, or been involved in extracurricular activities.
The Tunji Olowolafe Foundation is a philanthropic organisation dedicated to strategic human capital development in Nigeria, focusing on improving communities through education, healthcare, technology, and agriculture.
