As part of its community development programme, Unilever Nigeria Plc has updated and renovated the facilities at Ogun State's Local Government Primary School, Elero-Igbesa.
The company, in collaboration with GEP, handed over the refurbished facilities on February 18, 2026. As part of the project, classroom blocks were renovated, contemporary restrooms were installed, and solar panels were supplied to encourage the school's use of sustainable energy.
To improve the learning environment for students, the renovated classrooms were furnished and equipped with improved ventilation. The goal of the intervention is to make the school safer, cleaner, and more comfortable overall.
The project supports the state government's agenda for school infrastructure renewal, according to Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, who attended the event. He encouraged other business organisations to follow suit.
According to Tobi Adeniyi, managing director of Unilever Nigeria Plc, the project supports the Ogun State Education Revitalisation Agenda and Sustainable Development Goal 4 on excellent education. According to him, the company's intervention aims to improve sanitation and infrastructure, creating a conducive learning environment for kids.
According to Adeniyi, the installation of new restrooms, improved ventilation, and solar-powered energy solutions is expected to boost students' academic performance and attendance.
Oba Abdul-Azeez Akinde, the traditional ruler of Igbesaland, Ado-Odo Local Government, Oloja-Ekun, praised the company for its involvement in community education and said the project had a positive impact on the locals.
The initiative, according to GEP's procurement manager Tamara Vanndenbor and Zainab Obagun, head of communications, corporate affairs, and sustainability at Unilever Nigeria Plc, was created to give students a more hygienic and comfortable learning environment.
Yemisi Olugbile, the headmistress of the school, thanked the intervention and said the better facilities would improve students' performance and give parents more confidence.
