The University of Ilorin has extended the registration deadline for its 2026/2027 Post UTME screening exercise by one week to accommodate Direct Entry applicants still unable to begin their registration.
A circular issued by the University's Registrar, Mr M. A. Alfanla, confirmed that the deadline, originally set for Sunday, July 12, 2026, has been pushed to Sunday, July 19, 2026, principally to allow Direct Entry applicants to commence and complete their registration. See the steps to complete your registration in the UNILORIN Post UTME Guide.
Despite the extension, anxiety continues to build among affected applicants who told this reporter they remain locked out of the registration portal as the new deadline approaches, with some fearing they could miss the screening exercise entirely despite meeting admission requirements.
One applicant, speaking on condition of anonymity, revealed that candidates had been told the delay was linked to ongoing admission processes involving the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, though the University has issued no official explanation for the technical challenges.
“We appreciate the extension, but many of us still cannot register. We only hope the issue is resolved before the deadline so that no eligible candidate is denied the opportunity,” the applicant said.
The problem is not confined to UNILORIN. Direct Entry applicants seeking admission into other Nigerian universities, including the University of Ibadan and the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, have reported similar difficulties accessing institutional screening portals, with some describing persistent login errors and others linking the issue to pending JAMB admission processes.
A notice from the JAMB Help Centre urged Direct Entry candidates to remain calm, stating that preparations were ongoing for the activation of the 2026 Direct Entry portal, which would enable institutional screening registration, change of course or Institution requests, conversion services and other related transactions once live. Candidates were advised to monitor JAMB's official communication channels for updates.
With days remaining before the revised deadline, affected candidates have appealed to JAMB and tertiary institutions to conclude the necessary processes promptly so no applicant is disadvantaged. UNILORIN has issued no further statement beyond its registration extension notice.
