The Director of Finance and Accounts at the Niger Delta Development Commission, Dr. Kunemofa Asu, has been conferred with a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Disaster Risk Management by the University of Port Harcourt, adding a significant milestone to an already distinguished academic and professional career.
Dr. Asu received the doctorate during the University of Port Harcourt's 36th Combined Convocation Ceremony held on Saturday at the M&W Convocation Arena in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The ceremony featured a lecture on leadership and infrastructure development delivered by Federal Capital Territory Minister Chief Nyesom Wike and attracted dignitaries from across the country.
The achievement builds on an honorary doctorate in Leadership and Financial Management previously conferred on Dr. Asu by the American Management University in the United States, further consolidating her standing as a finance professional and public sector administrator.
With more than two decades of experience in financial management and governance, Dr. Asu has played key roles in advancing fiscal accountability and development focused initiatives within the NDDC, contributing to sustainable growth efforts across the Niger Delta region.
Her academic qualifications include a Master Of Business Administration from the National Open University of Nigeria and a Bachelor of Science degree in Accountancy from Rivers State University.
Dr. Asu is a Fellow of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria and the Institute of Strategic Management Nigeria, and holds affiliations with the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, the Nigerian Institute of Management, the Association of Chartered Certified System Accountants, and the Emergency, Crisis, and Disaster Risk Management Institute.
Her contributions to public service have earned her multiple recognitions, including the Peace Achievers International Award 2025, an honour from the Centre For Disaster Risk Management And Development Studies at the University Of Port Harcourt during the 2025 International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, and an Award Of Excellence for Regional Development, Integrity and Accountability at the International Public Service Excellence Awards held at the United Kingdom Parliament in London in 2026.
Dr. Asu has also undertaken executive training at Harvard University, London Corporate Training, and the Metropolitan School of Business and Management in the United Kingdom.
