Beneficiaries of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund at the University of Uyo have been assured that their refunds for the 2025/2026 academic session will be processed automatically, with no fresh application required from students.

The assurance came from the Directorate of Information and Public Relations of the institution's Students' Union, in a press release dated 13th July, 2026. The Directorate disclosed that the University's ICT Unit is presently cross checking the records of eligible beneficiaries against data on the NELFUND portal, working alongside the Bursary Department to complete the exercise.

Once this verification stage is concluded, the Students' Union noted, qualifying students will receive their refunds directly, eliminating the need for any manual submission or paperwork on their part.

Addressing concerns among the student population, the Union urged beneficiaries to remain calm, projecting that the refund exercise would be wrapped up within the current week or, at the latest, the following week.

The Union clarified that the automatic refund arrangement is specific to students who benefited from NELFUND during the 2025/2026 academic session alone. Students from earlier sessions who are yet to receive their refunds were advised to continue pursuing the established application process already in place for their cases.

The clarification from UNIUYO arrives at a period of heightened scrutiny around delayed NELFUND refunds across Nigerian tertiary institutions, with beneficiaries in various schools voicing frustration over slow disbursement timelines.
