The West African Examinations Council has released the provisional international timetable for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates, with the examination season running from April through June 2026.

The timetable, published by WAEC via its official X handle, covers all five member countries, though specific subjects vary by country. Nigerian candidates should note that subjects marked with a double asterisk are available exclusively to candidates in Nigeria.

The examination opens in April with project and practical work for creative and vocational subjects, including Basketry, Ceramics, Jewellery, Leatherwork, Sculpture, Textiles, Graphic Design, and Applied Technology, with project periods running from 7 April through to late April and beyond, depending on the subject.

For Nigerian Candidates sitting the core academic subjects, the key dates to note are as follows. Further Mathematics Essay and Objective papers will be held on Thursday, 21 May 2026. General Mathematics Essay and Objective papers are scheduled for Wednesday, 3 June 2026. English Language Essay and Objective papers will be sat on Wednesday, 10 June 2026, the same day as Chemistry Essay and Objective papers. Economics Essay and Objective papers fall on Wednesday, 17 June 2026. Financial Accounting, listed as Accounting for Nigerian candidates, holds on Thursday, 18 June 2026.

Candidates should also note that the examination will observe public holiday breaks, including Workers' Day on Friday, 1 May 2026, and the Eid al Adha holidays from Tuesday, 26 May to Thursday, 28 May 2026.

WAEC has confirmed that blind, deaf, and dumb candidates are entitled to one and a half times the standard time allocation for each paper. Candidates are also reminded that where the duration shown on a question paper differs from the timetable, the question paper takes precedence.

The timetable is described as provisional. Candidates are advised to check the official WAEC website regularly for any updates or amendments before their examination dates.
