FCT Minister Nyesom Wike will on Saturday deliver the convocation lecture at the University of Port Harcourt's 36th Convocation Ceremony, speaking on leadership and infrastructure development before graduating students and the wider academic community.

Wike's Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday. The lecture, titled "Leadership and Infrastructure Development in Nigeria: Lessons for Future Leaders," will be held at the New Convocation Arena, University of Port Harcourt, Choba, Rivers State, at 10 am.

UNIPORT Vice Chancellor Professor Owunari Georgewill, in a letter dated 20th April 2026, described the lecture as an opportunity to engage graduating students and the academic community on issues of critical importance to national development, leadership, and the future of Nigerian society.

"Your Excellency's distinguished record of service to our nation, your exemplary leadership, and your enduring contributions to governance, infrastructural development, and public administration stand as a testament to visionary statesmanship," Georgewill wrote in the invitation letter.

The Vice Chancellor added that Wike's presence would honour his alma mater and reinforce the connection between leadership, scholarship and national progress, serving as motivation for students standing at the threshold of new beginnings.

Wike accepted the invitation through a letter by his Chief of Staff, Chidi Amadi, dated 23rd April 2026. The letter noted that his choice of topic was informed by his conviction that effective leadership must translate into tangible outcomes, particularly through the provision of critical infrastructure, social services, and amenities that positively impact citizens' lives.

The 36th Convocation Ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, 6th June 2026.
