Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has sanctioned the establishment of a campus FM Radio station at Zamfara State College of Art and Science in Gusau, allocating N13.5 million for the project.
The funding covers the acquisition of ZACAS FM transmission equipment and the registration process with the National Broadcasting Commission to secure a broadcasting licence for the institution.
Suleiman Umar Dansadau, Head of the Mass Communication Department at the college, expressed gratitude to the governor for the approval, describing it as a historic intervention that will transform practical training opportunities for students.
"We sincerely thank His Excellency, Executive Governor Dr Dauda Lawal, for approving the sum of 13.5 million naira for the purchase of ZACAS FM transmission equipment and registration with the National Broadcasting Commission to obtain a broadcasting licence for the institution," Dansadau acknowledged.
He explained that the initiative represents a golden opportunity for students of Mass Communication and related disciplines to gain hands on experience in broadcasting, enhancing their professional skills before entering the media industry.
The campus radio station will serve as a practical training ground where students can apply theoretical knowledge gained in classrooms to real world broadcasting scenarios, bridging the gap between academic learning and professional practice.
Dansadau expressed optimism that additional studio equipment, including facilities for television production, photography, public relations, and news editing, will be provided in the near future to complement the radio station infrastructure and create a comprehensive media training environment for students at the college.
