Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has announced arrangements for the matriculation of newly admitted students for the 2025/2026 academic session.
According to a special bulletin issued by the university's Public Affairs Directorate, Office of the Vice-Chancellor, the matriculation ceremony will take place on Tuesday, 17th February 2026, with attendance mandatory for all fresh undergraduate students.
The institution has set the gown hire charge at Three Thousand Naira (N3,000), representing an increase from the Two Thousand Naira charged during the 2024/2025 session. All payments must be processed electronically through the Remita platform by generating a Remita Retrieval Reference (RRR).
Fresh students are required to collect their academic gowns from their respective faculties in preparation for the event.
Payment Procedure
The university has outlined a four-step payment process on the Remita website (www.remita.net):
Step One: Students must log in to www.remita.net
Step Two: Click "Pay TSA & States," then select "FGN: Federal Government of Nigeria"
Step Three: Fill the form with the following details: "Who do you want to pay: Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria - 1000110"; "Name of Service/Purpose: COGCC"; "Description: Hiring of Academic Gown"; "GIFMIS Code: 0000"; alongside the amount to pay, payer's name, phone number, and email address. Students are then required to confirm their email address, click the "I'm not a robot" box, and click "Submit" to proceed to the payment window.
Step Four: Students should select their preferred payment mode from the following options: Debit Card, Bank Branch (by visiting any bank with a copy of the RRR printout or RRR number for payment), or Internet Banking. After submission, the system will redirect to the payment window.
For payments made using a debit card through the university's POS terminals, the cashier will issue the University Official Receipt immediately. However, if payment is made using any other option, such as Bank Branch or Internet Banking, a printout of the Remita Receipt is required for issuance of the official receipt.
The management has issued a stern warning against making cash payments at the designated centres for the collection of academic gowns, emphasising strict adherence to the approved electronic payment system.
The bulletin, dated Monday, 9th February 2026, and signed by the university management, underscores the institution's commitment to transparency and accountability in financial transactions.
