The National Youth Service Corps has received official recognition from the Service Compact with All Nigerians for significant improvements in how it delivers services to corps members, particularly around orientation camp operations, including feeding and welfare provisions.

The commendation was made during the opening ceremony of the 2025 Second Quarter Networking Meeting for Desk Officers held in Abuja on Tuesday, where SERVICOM officials singled out NYSC for raising standards across its facilities nationwide.

SERVICOM National Coordinator Nnenna Akajemeli, represented by the Head of Operations Mrs Ngozi Akinbodewa, described the NYSC as "one of the Federal Government agencies demonstrating commendable commitment to quality service delivery and responsiveness to citizens' needs."

Akajemeli noted that the improvements recorded in orientation camp operations reflect the scheme's alignment with service standards expected of public institutions.

The workshop, themed "Leveraging SERVICOM Principles for Effective and Efficient Service Delivery in NYSC," brought together participants from the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters, the Federal Capital Territory, and all 36 state secretariats.

Responding to the commendation, the NYSC Director General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, pledged that the scheme would maintain and build on the progress already achieved in service delivery.

Represented by the Director of Reforms Coordination and Service Improvement, Chief Chinwendu Chukwu, Nafiu told participants that the workshop was "not merely routine, but a call to action," urging officers to renew their commitment to professionalism, integrity, and strict adherence to SERVICOM principles.

The Director General characterised Desk Officers as "a critical link between the Scheme and the public," charging them to "give their best at all times to ensure optimal service delivery."

Nafiu pushed participants to "continually reassess their engagement with stakeholders, especially during official interactions," to strengthen public confidence in the scheme's operations.

The recognition from SERVICOM comes at a time when many government agencies face criticism over service delivery standards, making the NYSC commendation particularly significant for an organisation that manages over 300,000 young Nigerians annually through its orientation camps and deployment programmes.

The improvements acknowledged by SERVICOM include better meal quality, enhanced camp facilities, and more responsive handling of corps members' concerns during the mandatory three week orientation period that marks the beginning of every service year.
