Ten outstanding graduating students at Plateau State University have each received ₦500,000 in financial support through the Strom Scholars Award, an initiative designed to strengthen youth capacity and drive Nigeria's economic development.
The award ceremony took place during the university's 8th and 9th combined convocation ceremonies, marking the second edition of the programme organised by the Strom Foundation.
Beyond the total ₦5 million disbursed to the scholars, the initiative includes mentorship support to help recipients transition from academic achievement to active participation in Nigeria's economy, according to a statement released by the organisation.
Ibimina Young Arney, speaking on behalf of the foundation, positioned the award as more than a simple recognition of academic success.
"At Strom, we are builders, not only of infrastructure, but of systems, opportunities, futures, and possibilities. We believe that true development must improve lives. The Strom Scholars Award is a direct expression of that belief," Arney stated.
She clarified that the selection criteria extend beyond grades, incorporating qualities such as discipline, resilience, and leadership potential that position recipients to make meaningful contributions to Nigeria's infrastructure growth.
