The Federal University of Technology, Minna, will hold its 133rd Inaugural Lecture on Thursday, 13th August 2026, at 10:00am, at the 1,000 Seater Auditorium, Main Campus, Gidan Kwano.
The lecture, themed "Nature To Nature: The Mirage Of Materials Longevity," will be delivered by Engr. Professor Abdulrahman Asipita Salawu, a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers.
Management extended the invitation to the Senate, the University community, and the public to attend the event.
Professor Salawu is a Professor of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering at the University, with research interests spanning composite materials, corrosion inhibitors, and ferrous and non ferrous metallurgy. His work has examined green corrosion inhibitors for steel reinforcement in concrete, an area he has described as offering eco friendly alternatives for protecting structures in the construction industry.
Beyond his role at the University, Salawu currently serves as Vice Chancellor of the Confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara, in Kogi State, a position he was appointed to in 2023, succeeding the Institution's pioneer Vice Chancellor, Professor Salawu Sadiku. He served on the Technical and Implementation Committees that helped establish the University before his appointment as its Chief Executive.
The inaugural lecture forms part of a long running series at the Federal University of Technology, Minna, through which professors formally present their research contributions to the University community. Reaching its 133rd edition, the series has featured scholars across the Institution's engineering, science, and technology disciplines.
Members of the Senate, academic staff, students, and the general public are expected to attend the lecture.
