The Nigerian Education Loan Fund has disbursed N165,849,300 to 2,522 students of the Nigerian Army University, Biu, Borno State, under the Federal Government's student loan scheme for the 2025/2026 academic session.

The disbursement was disclosed in an acknowledgement letter dated 29th June 2026, addressed to the Managing Director of NELFUND, Akintunde Sawyerr, by the Office of the Registrar of the University.

According to the letter, the amount comprised N141,540,300 paid to 2,160 students and N24,309,000 paid to an additional 362 students who successfully completed verification and screening.

The University confirmed that the funds were received through its Central Bank of Nigeria account, with the first tranche of N141.54 million paid on 25th March 2026 and the second tranche of N24.31 million paid on 26th May 2026, bringing the cumulative disbursement to N165.85 million.

In the letter, signed by the Deputy Registrar (Establishment), Ibrahim Bulama Bukar, for the Registrar, the University commended NELFUND for the intervention. “We also wish to commend the management of NELFund for this intervention, while we look forward to further mutual cooperation,” the letter read.

The University described the loan scheme as a significant support mechanism for students seeking access to higher education.

The disbursement adds to a growing list of tertiary institutions benefiting from the Federal Government's student loan programme, which was established to ease the financial burden on students and expand access to quality tertiary education across Nigeria.
