Corps members serving under the Oshodi Isolo Local Council in Lagos took to the streets of Arena Market, Oshodi, to carry out a community sanitation exercise as part of activities marking the 53rd anniversary of the National Youth Service Corps.

The corps members turned out in large numbers to clean strategic areas within and around the market environment, with officials of the scheme describing the exercise as a demonstration of the NYSC's continued commitment to community development and public health improvement.

The Local Government Inspector for Oshodi Isolo Local Government, Omolara Oyerinde, noted that the activity reflected the values of service and community impact, which the scheme has upheld since its establishment.

"This exercise is part of our contribution to the community as we celebrate the 53rd anniversary of NYSC. The turnout of corps members today shows their commitment to service, teamwork, and community development," she stated.

Oyerinde added that the exercise was organised not only to mark the anniversary but also to encourage residents to maintain a cleaner and healthier environment.

Also speaking at the event, the Zonal Inspector for Ikeja, Abimbola Yewande, commended participating corps members for their dedication throughout the exercise and affirmed that the scheme's relevance after 53 years was rooted in its continuous contributions to national development and community service.

Yewande urged corps members to sustain the ideals of the scheme through impactful activities that positively affect their host communities, adding that environmental sanitation remained central to improving public health and creating safer surroundings for residents and traders alike.

Officials noted that corps members across the country have continued to support communities through various development initiatives, reinforcing the NYSC's standing as a critical vehicle for youth driven national progress.
