Lagos State is moving towards a Unified Digital Database for Students and teachers across its Public and Private Schools, following a courtesy visit by the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) to the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.
The visit is part of ongoing discussions between the two bodies on integrating student and teacher data into the state's residents' database, a development that could significantly improve how the state tracks enrolment figures, manages teacher deployment, and plans school infrastructure.
Before the ministerial meeting, LASRRA also engaged with the Office of Education Quality Assurance, Lagos, to align on data standards and integrity requirements for the proposed system.
Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Tolani Alli Balogun, welcomed the initiative, noting that a comprehensive and accurate database of pupils and teachers would strengthen planning and policy decisions across the sector. He said improved data management would directly support teacher recruitment, infrastructure development, and efforts to raise learning outcomes statewide.
General Manager of LASRRA, Mrs. Bilikiss Adebiyi Abiola, said the agency would supply high quality data while the Ministry develops a backend system to manage school records. Both parties agreed that the Office of Education Quality Assurance would develop a formal proposal for approval as the next step towards implementing the unified registration system.
For students and teachers in Lagos schools, the practical value of such a system lies in what better data makes possible: faster identification of under resourced schools, more accurate teacher allocation, and a reduction in the administrative gaps that have historically made it difficult to hold institutions accountable for enrolment and attendance figures.
