Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations and member representing Bichi Federal Constituency, Hon. Abubakar Kabir Bichi, has awarded postgraduate scholarships worth N25,853,128.50 to 122 constituents under the fourth edition of his Postgraduate Support Programme. The scheme targets students pursuing Master's and PhD degrees at higher Institutions across Nigeria and forms part of the lawmaker's ongoing investment in education and human capital development.

The programme was launched on Sunday at the Zibsah Event Centre, off the Federal College of Education Technical Old Campus Road in Bichi, Kano State. Speaking at the event, Bichi stated that the initiative aimed to ease the financial burden on postgraduate students while producing skilled professionals who would contribute to the development of Bichi Federal Constituency and the country.

He disclosed that 122 beneficiaries were selected for this year's programme, with the full sum approved for their sponsorship. The lawmaker further revealed that 21 postgraduate students had earlier been awarded scholarships to study in Malaysia under the programme's international component, noting that about 80% of the first batch have completed their studies. In contrast, a larger second batch is expected to depart in September.

Highlighting other educational interventions, Bichi noted that he had facilitated the construction of more than 700 classrooms across the 12 wards of Bichi Local Government Area to improve learning infrastructure in public schools. He added that he currently sponsors the salaries of 500 temporary teachers, each earning N60,000 monthly, to address teacher shortages in the constituency.

According to him, the education support programme also covers more than 500 students enrolled in schools under the Kano State Science and Technical Schools Board, with scholarships covering tuition, accommodation, learning materials, and other essential expenses. He also disclosed that an electronic library under construction in Bichi would provide students with access to digital learning resources and modern research facilities. He reaffirmed his commitment to investing in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and youth empowerment across the constituency.
