Margaret Lawrence University in Galilee, Delta State, has received approval from the National Universities Commission to commence undergraduate Engineering programmes at its main campus starting from the 2026/2027 academic session.
The approval was conveyed in a letter addressed to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ernest Izevbigie, and titled "Re: Resource Assessment Visit to Some Proposed Academic Programmes." Abubakar M. Girei, Director of Academic Planning, signed the letter on behalf of NUC Executive Secretary Prof. Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu.
The commission disclosed that the approval followed a resource verification exercise carried out by a panel of experts to assess the human and material resources available for the proposed programmes. The approved courses include Bachelor of Engineering degrees in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Civil Engineering, all set to run on a full time basis at the University's main campus.
NUC clarified that the approval does not cover part time delivery, noting that any proposal to introduce part time studies must first be submitted for further consideration. The commission also directed the institution to maintain adequate human and material resources to support the sustainability of the newly approved programmes.
MLU described the development as a landmark achievement that reinforces its commitment to quality technical education and national development, adding that it represents a major step toward becoming a globally recognised centre of academic excellence and innovation.
With the approval secured, the university is set to admit its first cohort into the Faculty of Engineering during the 2026/2027 session. MLU expressed confidence that the programmes would produce skilled graduates capable of driving innovation and contributing to Nigeria's economic growth, noting that the curriculum was developed in collaboration with industry experts and aligned with global best practices.
Beyond the new engineering offerings, the University has also expanded its Abuja campus through the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences, which now runs programmes including Accounting, Banking and Finance, Business Administration, Mass Communication, International Relations, Public Administration, Sociology, Economics, and Taxation.
