The National Association of Nigerian Students has launched a dedicated online portal to compile data on students who completed the Industrial Training Fund Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme but are yet to receive their allowances, amid conflicting reports over whether eligible beneficiaries have been paid.

The NANS President, Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, announced the portal on July 2, 2026, in a press statement issued following the inauguration of the ITF SIWES and Intervention Projects Assessment, Verification and Monitoring Committee.

Afeez said the verification portal was established to determine the accurate position of payments and ensure that all affected students receive the allowances due to them.

"While there are claims that beneficiaries have been paid, many students maintain otherwise. The verification portal has therefore been established to ascertain the true position of affairs and ensure that affected students receive the payments due to them," the statement read.

Students who completed their industrial training placement and are yet to receive their SIWES allowance have been directed to visit the portal at itf.nanshq.org and submit the required information.

The portal launch follows the inauguration of a dedicated ITF committee tasked with the assessment, verification, and monitoring of SIWES payments and intervention projects, signalling a structured effort by the student body to resolve what has become a source of frustration for students across Nigerian tertiary institutions.

SIWES is a federally funded scheme administered by the ITF, designed to expose students in science, engineering, technology, and related disciplines to practical workplace experience as part of their academic training. Allowances are paid to students upon successful completion of the placement period, though delayed and disputed payments have been a recurring concern for student advocates.

Afeez reaffirmed NANS's commitment to pursuing the welfare of Nigerian students, stating that the association would continue to advocate until all outstanding allowances were resolved.

"As your President, I remain committed to speaking for you, representing your interests, and relentlessly advocating for your welfare," he said.

Affected students have been urged to act promptly by submitting their details through the portal to facilitate verification and accelerate the payment process.
