The National Association of Nigerian Students, Joint Campus Committee, Niger Axis, has sounded an urgent alarm over the safety of Niger State students stranded in Jos, issuing a fresh and forceful appeal to the Niger State Government for an immediate evacuation as security conditions in the city continue to deteriorate.
In a statement released to journalists, the association said the crisis has worsened significantly since its earlier warnings, with persistent reports of violence and killings driving fear among students trapped in affected areas. The frequency of distress calls from students has increased sharply, with many reportedly uncertain about their safety and with no clear pathway out.
NANS expressed frustration that previous appeals appear to have gone unheeded, particularly as other state governments have already taken proactive steps to evacuate their indigenes from Jos. The association said the contrast has deepened the sense of abandonment among Niger State students, who feel exposed and unsupported at a moment of acute personal danger.
The student body disclosed that it has been coordinating advocacy efforts with sister organisations, including the National Association of Niger State Students and the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Niger State Chapter, to amplify calls for government intervention. Among their core demands is the immediate activation of an emergency evacuation plan for all affected Niger State students currently in Jos, backed by close collaboration between the state government, security agencies, and student leadership structures on the ground.
NANS argued that student leaders possess critical on the ground intelligence that could significantly aid the identification and safe movement of affected individuals, and urged authorities to engage them directly in planning and executing any evacuation operation.
The association closed with a stark warning that continued inaction risks lives, calling on the Niger State Government to act decisively and provide anxious families with the assurance that urgent steps are being taken to bring their children home safely.
