The management of Northwest University Kano has set up an investigative committee to examine allegations of sexual misconduct involving one of its lecturers, following the circulation of a video on social media.

In a statement issued on Friday, the University disclosed that the lecturer, Dr Nasa'i Muhammad Gwadabe, was accused of attempting to sexually harass a female student of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria. The alleged incident reportedly took place at the old campus of Bayero University, Kano.

The institution noted that it viewed the allegation with serious concern and had commenced an internal investigation to establish the facts surrounding the incident.

Northwest University Kano is a state owned Public University established in 2012 by the Kano State Government, and has in recent months deepened ties with Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria, the institution attended by the student named in the allegation, through donations and pledges of research collaboration between the two schools.

According to the University, the committee has been mandated to thoroughly investigate the matter and submit its findings to management for appropriate action.

Northwest University Kano stressed that it does not condone sexual harassment, abuse, or any form of misconduct by members of its staff or students, irrespective of where such incidents are alleged to have occurred.

The University added that any disciplinary action taken would be based on the outcome of the investigation and applied in accordance with its rules and regulations.

While urging the public to avoid speculation, management assured that the investigation would be conducted fairly and transparently, reaffirming its commitment to professionalism, integrity, and due process.
