Members of the 2025 Batch B Stream One of the National Youth Service Corps officially passed out across the country today, marking the end of their one year mandatory service under the scheme's outgoing operational structure.
The Management of NYSC approved Thursday, 9th July, 2026, as the passing out date for the 2025 Batch B Stream One Corps Members, according to a statement issued by the scheme's Director of Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu.
The scheme said the low key exercise would end with the presentation of Certificates of National Service to eligible corps members across all Local Government Areas in the country, rather than through a large centralised ceremony.
NYSC noted that only corps members who have satisfactorily completed the requirements of the national service programme would receive their Certificates of National Service.
Activities leading up to the passing out ceremony commenced on June 23, and included Job Advisory and Counselling by NYSC and other relevant agencies, registration and clearing of Corps Members by Local Government Inspectors, as well as the signing of final clearance by Zonal Inspectors.
Director General of NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, congratulated the outgoing corps members, urging them to uphold the values of the NYSC after their service year and remain good ambassadors of the scheme in their post service activities.
Today's exercise comes weeks after the Federal Executive Council, presided over by President Bola Tinubu, approved a sweeping overhaul of the scheme, its most significant reform in 53 years. Under the changes, the traditional Passing Out Parade will be replaced with a graduation ceremony, the orientation camp will be extended from three to six weeks, and operational leadership will shift to civilian control for the first time, while the military retains responsibility for security. The reform also introduces 11 specialised skills based streams for future corps members to choose from during registration.
Meanwhile, a document circulating on social media this week claiming that NYSC had directed Local Government Inspectors to distribute Point of Sale machines alongside certificates at today's ceremony has been confirmed false by fact checkers, who found inconsistencies in the document's formatting and signatory details. NYSC has not issued any such directive through its official channels, and members of the public have been advised to disregard the memo.
