The 2026 Batch B Stream I Orientation Course for prospective corps members deployed to Niger State has been suspended by the National Youth Service Corps, following ongoing renovation work at the state's orientation camp.

The scheme announced the suspension via its official X handle on Sunday, noting that affected prospective corps members would be contacted at short notice with updated details on where and when to report for the exercise.

"This is to notify the general public and prospective corps members deployed to Niger State for the 2026 Batch B Stream I Orientation Course that their orientation course has been suspended for now due to ongoing renovation work at the orientation camp," the statement read.

The management also expressed regret over the disruption. "The management regrets all inconveniences to the affected PCMs and their parents," it added.

The suspension is tied to infrastructure damage the camp sustained earlier in 2026, when a severe windstorm tore through the facility in Paiko, Paikoro Local Government Area, destroying the male hostels, the multipurpose hall, the kitchen, and the staff quarters. Governor Mohammed Bago subsequently directed immediate repairs to the facility.

The NYSC has since confirmed that the orientation course for Niger State will now commence on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, and run until Monday, July 6, 2026, representing a shift from the original national schedule, which commenced on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, and was set to close on Tuesday, June 30, 2026.

Niger State is not alone in this situation. Similar postponements linked to renovation work were recorded earlier in the year in Enugu and Osun states, pointing to a broader pattern of infrastructure challenges affecting orientation camp operations across the country.

Affected prospective corps members have been advised to await official communication from the scheme before making any movement to the camp.
