The Ife Architecture Students' Association of the Department of Architecture, Obafemi Awolowo University, has concluded ArchiWeek 2026, a week-long programme combining academic competitions, professional engagement and cultural expression under the theme "Oríl̀ẹ: Forging Roots and Routes."

The edition examined the intersection of architectural heritage and future development, with activities designed to explore how culture, history and identity can inform sustainable design. The theme also honoured Professor C. O. Osasona for his contributions to vernacular architecture and cultural heritage preservation in Nigeria.

A central feature of the programme was the IFASA National Design Competition, themed "Architectural Palimpsest," which drew participants from Architecture Schools across the country, including the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, University of Ilorin, Bowen University, Federal University of Technology, Akure, Federal University of Technology, Minna and Ladoke Akintola University of Technology.

Seventeen teams entered the contest, with seven advancing to the final round. Team Ireti of OAU emerged as the overall winner, while Team Ladipo of LAUTECH placed second and Team Irii of FUT Minna finished third. Shortlisted teams received cash prizes in recognition of their entries.

The Ife Architecture Summit 3.0 served as another major highlight, bringing together prominent professionals to discuss emerging issues in African architecture. Architect Olayiwola Papa Omotayo delivered the keynote address on the relationship between indigenous traditions and global architectural influences, while Eruke Oyinvwin Pamela presented a paper on architecture as strategy in the Nigerian context. A panel discussion featuring Ofununochukwu Rufus Nwoko further examined the future of African architectural heritage.

The week opened with a Sports Festival featuring football, table tennis, relay races and sprint events, with Red House emerging as the overall winner. An Origin of Flavours Cooking Competition and an Architectural Trivia Session also featured on the programme.

The Art and Fashion Exhibition and Trade Fair, themed "Where/What Do We Call Home?", showcased fashion, visual arts, jewellery and food. Six students from OAU International School displayed artworks alongside University students and professional creatives.

The week concluded with the inaugural Breakfast With An Alumnus session, featuring distinguished alumnus and Anetorplus founder Eromosele Anetor, who shared insights from three decades of professional practice with final year and postgraduate students.
