The Federal Ministry of Education has denied claims that a history textbook titled “Living History” has been approved for use in Nigerian schools. The ministry stated clearly that the book was neither approved nor recommended for classroom use.

This explanation was provided in Abuja through a statement made by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Folasade Boriowo. She explained that the National Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) was never asked to inspect or review the textbook in connection with the national curriculum.

According to Boriowo, the book does not appear on the official list of approved history textbooks and has not received a recommendation from NERDC. Further discussions with the council’s leadership also confirmed that the textbook is not among those approved for nationwide educational use.

The ministry advised parents, teachers, school owners, and the general public to ignore the misinformation and avoid using the book in schools. It warned that relying on unapproved learning materials could undermine curriculum standards and negatively affect teaching quality and student learning outcomes.

Boriowo noted that all approved textbooks are carefully reviewed to ensure they align with the national curriculum and truly reflect Nigeria’s cultural diversity, shared history, and core national values. She also urged those involved to engage responsibly in public discussions and to verify the approval status of textbooks through official bodies such as NERDC.
