Trinity University, Yaba, Lagos, is marking a double celebration this week, holding its fourth convocation and eighth matriculation ceremony within days of each other, as 200 students prepare to receive their degrees and a new set of undergraduates takes the academic oath.

Vice Chancellor Professor Clement Kolawole announced the ceremonies at a press conference, revealing that graduating students came from the Faculties of Arts, Social and Management Sciences (101), Basic and Applied Medical Sciences (64) and Nursing Sciences (35). Of the 200 degree recipients, 51 graduated with First Class, 61 with Second Class Upper and 55 with Second Class Lower, while four received Third Class degrees. A further 12 Students from the Centre for Addiction Science and Behavioural Psychology will receive Diplomas at the ceremony.

The week's programme includes a Matriculation lecture by the Vice Chancellor of Ekiti State University, Professor J.B. Ayodele, speaking on "Coping with the Challenges of University Education in Nigeria: The Role of Psycho Social Adjustment." The Convocation lecture will be delivered by Pastor Poju Oyemade, Senior Pastor and founder of The Covenant Nation, on the theme "Innovation is the Key to the Future."

The Vice Chancellor used the occasion to outline institutional progress between March 2025 and March 2026, including the introduction of four new programmes: Cybersecurity, Biochemistry, Tourism and Hospitality Management, and Courier and Logistics Management. The University has also launched a Skills Acquisition Academy designed to address unemployment and equip graduates with practical competencies beyond their degrees.

Further developments include new Memoranda of Understanding with partner Agencies and Institutions, staff support for International conferences and PhD completion, and plans to host the Lagos Studies Association Conference in June 2026. The University also highlighted its ambitions in sports, noting student medal wins in volleyball, football, and table tennis at inter university competitions, and appealing for support to establish sports scholarships and improve facilities.
