The University of Jos has suspended all examination activities scheduled for Monday, March 30, and Tuesday, March 31, 2026, following a deadly attack on the Angwan Rukuba community in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.

In a statement signed by the Deputy Registrar for Information and Public Relations, Emmanuel Madugu, the university disclosed that the decision was taken in view of the Sunday night attack by gunmen on residents of the Angwan Rukuba community and the tensions it generated in and around the area. "All examinations scheduled to be held on Monday, 30th, and Tuesday, 31st March, 2026 are postponed, and will be rescheduled accordingly," the statement read.

The university further advised members of its community to stay vigilant and exercise caution in their movements on and off campus, warning against coming out very early in the morning. Members were also strongly urged to "report immediately any sign or shadow of breach of the public peace to the University Security Division on 08035895323."

Management disclosed that it is actively liaising with relevant security agencies and monitoring the situation to ensure the safety of members of the university community, adding that further updates would be communicated in due course.

The suspension follows a violent attack on Sunday, March 29, 2026, in which gunmen on motorcycles stormed the Gari Ya Waye community in Angwan Rukuba, shooting at residents, including passersby and roadside traders. The attack resulted in the loss of lives and left several others with varying degrees of injuries.

In response, the Plateau State Government imposed a 48 hour curfew on Jos North Local Government Area, taking effect from midnight of March 29 to April 1, 2026. The state Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Ramnap, confirmed the curfew in an official statement. Governor Caleb Mutfwang condemned the attack, describing it as "barbaric and unprovoked," and assured residents that efforts were ongoing to apprehend those responsible.

The Angwan Rukuba residential area is home to many UNIJOS staff and students, making the attack a direct concern for the university community.
