Osun State University, Osogbo, will hold its 29th Inaugural Lecture on Thursday, 13th August 2026, with Professor Bolaji Olumuyiwa Omitola of the Department of Political Science set to deliver the address.

The lecture, titled "Governance in Nigeria: Between David and Goliath," is scheduled for 2:00pm at the Olagunsoye Oyinlola Auditorium, UNIOSUN Main Campus, Osogbo.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Odunayo Clement Adebooye, extended the invitation on behalf of the Council, Senate and Congregation of the University.

Professor Omitola holds a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from the University of Lagos, obtained in 1991, and a Master's degree and PhD in Political Science from the University of Ibadan, the latter completed in 2008. His research specialises in political institutions, comparative politics, public administration, security and development studies, with published work examining Nigerian federalism, party politics, ethno religious agitation and regional security structures such as the Amotekun corps.

Within the University, Omitola has held several principal positions, including Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Provost and Head of Campus, Director of Entrepreneurial Studies, Acting Dean of Students Affairs, Head of the Department of Political Science, and editor of the UNIOSUN Journal of Politics and Society. He currently sits on the University's Governing Council.

The inaugural lecture series is UNIOSUN's platform for professors to formally present their body of research to the University community and the public. The University's most recent inaugural lecture, the 28th in the series, was delivered in January by Professor Babatunde Decker on African social history, drawing academics, students, and invited guests to the same venue.

Earlier lectures in the series have covered a wide range of disciplines, including climatology, plant physiology, and public health, with past presenters including Professor Temi Ologunorisa, who delivered the University's first inaugural lecture, and Professor Alebiosu Olutayo, who addressed the rise of non communicable diseases in the seventh lecture.

Omitola's lecture on governance is expected to draw members of the Council, Senate, academic staff, and members of the public interested in the themes of political accountability and state power in Nigeria.
