Wellspring University in Benin, Edo State has received approval from the National Universities Commission for five new undergraduate health science programmes, with the courses set to commence in the 2026/2027 academic session.

The approved programmes are Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, B.Sc. Human Anatomy, B.Sc. Human Physiology, Bachelor of Health Information Management and Bachelor of Community Health Science.

The university disclosed the development in a statement on Tuesday, noting that the approval followed a successful resource verification exercise conducted by a panel of experts from the commission.

"Wellspring University has reached another significant milestone with the approval of five new undergraduate health programmes by the National Universities Commission, following a successful resource verification exercise conducted by a panel of experts from the commission. This approval reinforces the university's commitment to academic excellence, innovation and national development. It also advances the university's strategic expansion in the health sciences while reflecting the National Universities Commission's confidence in its academic resources, infrastructure, governance and capacity to deliver quality university education in line with national standards," the statement read.

The university added that the new programmes would strengthen its capacity to train competent healthcare professionals capable of contributing to the nation's healthcare delivery and broader socioeconomic development.

Prospective candidates seeking admission into any of the five programmes were directed to contact the university's admissions office or visit its official communication channels for information on entry requirements and application procedures for the 2026/2027 academic session.

The NUC approval positions Wellspring University among a growing number of private institutions expanding their offerings in health sciences as demand for medical and allied health professionals continues to rise across Nigeria.
