Ahmadu Bello University is set to honour the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajuddeen, with a Distinguished Alumnus of the Year Award in recognition of his contributions to the development of the Institution.
According to a statement by the University's spokesperson, Auwalu Umar, Tajuddeen, an ABU alumnus, is being recognised for facilitating the provision of a 60 KVA solar powered mini grid and sports facilities, among other contributions to the University.
The Speaker is among 156 staff members, service units and Alumni listed for the 2025 awards, as recommended by the University Reward and Recognition System Committee. The committee, led by Professor Sani A. Abdullahi, submitted its report to University Management recommending 140 staff members, a University committee, a research group, a corporate body, three service delivery units, a deanery and nine alumni for recognition based on their outstanding contributions to the objectives of the university as well as national and international development.
The statement noted that nominations were drawn from heads of relevant University units using appropriate evaluation instruments. An award ceremony will be announced in due course.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Adamu Ahmed, commended the committee for what he described as a thorough job and congratulated all awardees on the deserving recognition. He expressed confidence that the awards would instil trust and motivate staff across the Institution.
This will mark the third time ABU has conferred such awards since the establishment of the committee three years ago. The committee's terms of reference include instituting a reward and special recognition system for Staff, service units, Corporate Bodies, Alumni and friends of the University.
