Caleb University, Lagos, is set to host two back to back professional conferences addressing Nigeria's media and human resource sectors, with both events scheduled to be held within days of each other later this month.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Olalekan Asikhia announced the conferences at a press conference at the institution's City Campus in Magodo, Lagos, describing the initiatives as designed to promote innovation, resilience, and sustainable development across both professions.
The first event, the Journalism Outlook Conference 2026, holds on July 20 at Caleb University's main campus in Imota, Lagos. Organised in partnership with the Nigeria Institute of Journalism, the Newspaper Proprietors' Association of Nigeria, and the Nigerian Guild of Editors, the conference carries the theme "Reinventing Local Newspapers in the Digital Age: Innovation, Sustainability, and Global Community Impact."
Norwegian media expert Kirsten Marie Myklebust will serve as lead facilitator. Myklebust, who served as editor of Jærbladet from 2018 to 2023 and currently leads a newspaper digitalisation project, brings expertise in digital product development and content strategy drawn from her work with Amedia, Schibsted, and Equinor.
Asikhia noted the conference would provide a platform for dialogue, knowledge exchange, and actionable insights to strengthen the sustainability of Nigeria's journalism industry, while also calling for efficient information flow to address insecurity.
The second event, the HR Space Conference 2026, holds on July 21 at the Marriott Hotel, Lagos, under the theme "Reimagining HR for Business Resilience and Growth: Leading Nigeria's Workforce Through Disruption and Innovation." The conference targets Chief Human Resource Officers, HR Directors, CEOs, business executives, policymakers, and industry leaders from across Nigeria and beyond.
Minister of Labour and Employment Alhaji Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi will chair the session, while Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu will attend as Special Guest of Honour.
Asikhia stated the HR conference would address challenges including inflation, talent shortages, and the growing impact of artificial intelligence on the workforce, with participants expected to develop practical solutions for building business resilience.
The vice chancellor affirmed that both conferences reflect the university's commitment to global collaboration, professional excellence, and solutions that contribute to national development.
