The National Universities Commission has approved 12 new undergraduate and postgraduate academic programmes for Sa'adu Zungur University in Bauchi State, with all programmes scheduled to commence in the 2026/2027 academic session.
The approval was conveyed in a letter dated June 15, 2026, following a comprehensive resource assessment conducted by the commission to evaluate the university's readiness in terms of academic staff, physical infrastructure, library resources, laboratories, and other required facilities.
The university's Public Relations Officer, Auwal Hassan, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday.
Among the newly approved undergraduate programmes are B.A. (Ed.) Arabic, B.A. (Ed.) Hausa, B.A. (Ed.) Islamic Studies, B.A. Sharia, B.Sc. Social Work, B.Sc. (Ed.) Agricultural Science, B.Sc. (Ed.) Human Kinetics, and B.Sc. (Ed.) Health Education.
At the postgraduate level, the commission approved M.Ed. Educational Management, Doctor of Business Administration, Postgraduate Diploma, LL.M., and Ph.D. Law, as well as Postgraduate Diploma, M.Sc., and Ph.D. Sociology.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Fatimah Tahir, described the approval as a strong endorsement of the institution's commitment to academic excellence, institutional growth, and compliance with NUC regulatory standards.
She noted that the new programmes align with the university's strategic vision of expanding access to quality higher education, promoting research and innovation, and producing graduates equipped to address contemporary national and global challenges.
Tahir expressed appreciation to the NUC for its confidence in the university's capacity, assuring that the institution would maintain the standards upon which the approvals were granted.
She also credited Bauchi State Governor and university Visitor, Bala Mohammed, for sustained investment in infrastructure, academic development, and institutional support, and commended the Governing Council, Senate, management, and staff for their collective efforts during the resource assessment exercise.
"The approval reinforces Sa'adu Zungur University's position as one of Nigeria's emerging public universities committed to academic excellence, impactful research, innovation, and community service. The university remains steadfast in its mission of producing competent graduates, advancing knowledge through research, and contributing meaningfully to the socioeconomic development of Bauchi State, Nigeria, and the global community," Tahir stated.
