Residents of Ota, Ogun State, received free medical services ranging from prostate and breast cancer screenings to eye treatments and deworming for children, as Beulah World Initiative and the Covenant Applied Informatics and Communication Africa Centre of Excellence at Covenant University jointly organised a community health outreach tagged Operation Rescue at Canaanland, Ota.
BWI Founder and Coordinator, Chichi Ononiwu, set the tone for the event with a clear statement of purpose. "We believe that health is the foundation of a purposeful life. No one should have to choose between their health and their daily bread. That is why we are here to provide these screenings, treatments, and items for free," she stated, urging community members to take full advantage of every service on offer.
Ononiwu acknowledged the role of partnerships in sustaining the outreach, expressing gratitude to CApIC ACE, Covenant University management, and what she described as the exemplary life of Covenant University Chancellor, Dr David Oyedepo. "Your commitment to the gospel, to excellence, and to community impact is what makes Operation Rescue possible. To our silent partners, volunteers, and medical teams, thank you for your selfless service," she added.
Centre Leader of CApIC ACE, Prof. Emeka Iweala, explained that the centre is a multidisciplinary research group funded under the ACE IMPACT project, established to train African scientists to drive research aimed at reducing the burden of malaria, breast cancer, and prostate cancer. Iweala disclosed that CApIC ACE has trained 500 postgraduate students and African researchers to strengthen cancer research capacity across the continent, with community outreach serving as a key channel for disseminating research findings and raising public awareness.
Prof. Tayo George, immediate past Chairman of the Covenant University Community Development Impact Initiatives Community, addressed participants on healthy living, focusing on the deliberate inclusion of fruits, vegetables, and balanced meals in affordable and accessible proportions as a foundation for long term wellness.
Services delivered at the outreach included professional medical consultations, testing and treatments, comprehensive eye tests, distribution of reading glasses, deworming for children, and the provision of clothing, food items, and essential health education.
